We all like to take a good vacation sometimes. The first thing many of us like to do is immediately start looking for the next international flight that we can take. However, for those within the states, there are many cities that would definitely be worth the time to take a look at. You can have a great time and save a substantial amount of money just by simply going to what’s right in your own backyard. So let us take an opportunity and look at some of the best cities to travel to in the US.

Scottsdale, AZ

Scottsdale is definitely a beautiful city that is worth a visit. It’s only about 20 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It can be a little on the expensive side if you plan on living there, but fortunately, this is not the case for those looking for a quick trip. Scottsdale is known for having many acclaimed restaurants. It is definitely necessary to stop in on Sel and Atlas Bistro. Some other suggestions would be Rehab Burger Therapy, Butters Pancake & Café, Citizen Public House, as well as True Food Kitchen. If you have a love for classy fashion boutiques, this is definitely a place for you. Do you like nature? This is a great place for that as well. You can check out Butterly Wonderland which is known for having live exotic butterflies from all over the world just flying all around you. They also show videos that educate you on all you possibly need to know about butterflies. Another adventurous place to check out is the Mcdowell Sonoran Preserve which has thousands of miles of trails where you can bird watch, climb mountains, or ride bikes. If this is too much for you, you can simple just relax by a pool, and look at the sunsets of this gorgeous city while taking in the mountains.

MAUI, HI

Maui is probably one of the most relaxing islands I have had the experience of visiting. The seafood is also top tier, and it’s one of those places you question will you ever have fish that fresh again. Some restaurants definitely worth noting would be Mama’s Fish House, Lahaina Grill, Da Kitchen, and my personal favorite breakfast location 808 Grindz Cafe. (Please be sure to try the pancakes here). Maui is definitely full of thrills. You can kayak and snorkel while looking at green sea turtles all around Makena Bay; There are also such options as parasailing or doing the Road to Hana. Road to Hana, allows you to see peacocks, black sand beaches, bamboo forest, and many other things. If you want a relaxing night, check out a Luau at a place such as the Laihana Resort while enjoying a delicious buffet.

New York City, NY

New York is a must-visit, as it is one of those places that everyone all over the world will think of when it comes to the United States. It has so many powerful landmarks such as the Liberty Tower, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and many other locations. There are a lot of cultures worth seeing in New York; it of course varies by your taste. Whether your interest is in Broadway, or simply watching flashy breakdancing in the subways, it is all here. I definitely recommend checking out the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well. The variety is magnificent and ranges from the Temple of Dendur to the Renaissance period, or relics of Oceania; it is all here. New York City is also the location of many restaurants that will give you a taste of so many different cultures. If you are into Japanese food, go to Masa. Do you want Turkish food? Go to Lokanta. Are you in a French mood? Go to Pastis and try the steak fries. The sky is the limit when it comes to your taste buds. If you are in the mood for a shopping spree, don’t forget to bring your wallet to Time Square.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco is a city that can give anybody the “wow” factor. Feel free to pay the iconic Golden Gate Bridge a visit which has been a trademark of San Francisco since 1937. You can find much to do at Union Square. You will get a variety of delicious food, accommodating luxury hotel stays, fantastic art galleries as well as the opportunity to enjoy a kind night-life. I also recommend checking out the Fisherman’s Wharf which allows you to enjoy a delicious variety of hot chowders; On top of this, you get to enjoy the view of an endless amount of sea lions if you go at the right time. I also highly recommend riding a Cable Car. How can you go to San Francisco and not do this? Also, take an opportunity to go to China Town. You will not be disappointed with the variety of food markets as well as shops. Make sure while you are here to try some of their delicious pork buns and duck.

Portland, Oregon

This is a very refreshing city to visit. Definitely visit Washington Park. Being over 150 acres, it is the home of Japanese gardens, zoos, and museums that are definitely worth exploring. If reading is a passion of yours, you can check out Powell’s City of Books which has so much reading material that you will literally need a map to explore it. Portland is also home to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry which gives you the opportunity to learn about physics, and chemistry and even explore the location where Red October was filmed. Feel like spending some money? Well, Oregon has zero sales taxes. How often do you get this opportunity? There are plenty of great restaurants to eat at. The places include Tasty n Alder which is known for its great brunches. If you are in the mood for amazing pasta, you have the option of Grassa. If you have a constant sweet tooth like my wife, definitely check out Blue Star Donuts. They are to die for. If you want to eat at a location with a little bit of history, I recommend Hubers café which has been a local favorite since 1879.

Chicago, IL

Chicago is a city that has some of the best architecture completed by the best architects in the world. You can see this by either going to the John Hancock building where you can get a 360-degree view of Chicago or you can take the Architecture River Cruise. You can get a tour around the Chicago River in which a guide can point out these famous buildings to you. The Lincoln Park Zoo is worth a look to see some of the exotic African apes and harbour seals. What else is Chicago known for? Pizza of course. You can try the yummy thin-crust pizzas at Vito and Nick’s Pizzeria which has been a city favorite since 1949. There is also Pequod’s Pizza which is considered one of the best pizza restaurants around for good reason. Bring your appetite, because their slices are huge. The windy city is also known for its history of Jazz and Blues. Pay homage to this by taking a visit to Green Mill for live performances.
